2010 Life – Weekend#1

February 3, 2010 in Chewy's Thoughts, Event, Food, Sports, Travel

They got snow on the mountains!

So Just a quick update. I’m Volunteering for the Olympic and the Paralympic and am stationed at the Village which is pretty much the center of everything ;) I’m at the Sports Information Desk in the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Centre

Village life ROCKS! At least my 1st 2 shift was…Just did it this past weekend.

Got a chance to chat with:

Great Britain’s Chef de Mission – he’s been to 5 Olympics as an NOC. Grew up in Hong Kong!
Germany – was looking for a place to have a great cup of cappuccino that’s not Starbucks…lol
Japan – got the nicest jacket I’ve seen so far.
Ukraine – wearing overall style snow pants … in the city!
Poland – got an alternate jacket..and I think Ukraine or Sweden does too…They’re easily mistakable…they’ve got the same color jackets.

Athletes’ Living room is gorgeous..They’re using the old Vancouver Salt Company’s shell for this place. It’s supposedly going to become a bar/lounge when this is all over.

Where I am, the NOC Service Center is the site of a future London Drugs.

The meal served to the workforce was kinda bland…not a whole lot of flavor or oil…very healthy!

Athletes are all suppose to arrive by the 4th…welcome ceremonies at the Village starts on the 6 and runs til the 11th. I get to miss all that since my next shift is not til the 18th so I won’t be able to share about those…

oh PS. I heard Team Canada’s hockey team is some other ones (Sweden) might stay at the village too.. If I get a chance to talk to Steve Yzerman (since he’s team manager and will have access to NOC Center), I’ll let you know! The plan is to create a form that he has to sign since we’re not allow to ask for autographs or pictures.

More Updates to Come.
